Sparkling cranberry switcha is a twist on a Bahamian classic. The sparkling cranberry cider gives the switcha a bubbly texture and a tart yet sweet taste that pairs perfectly with the limes in the switcha. It is a refreshing drink that will knock your socks off.

What Is Switcha

Switcha is a Bahamian drink made from limes, sugar, and water. It is the Bahamian version of limeade.

This recipe uses the same ingredients as switcha, along with sparkling cranberry cider. The combination of switcha and sparkling cranberry cider creates a refreshing drink perfect for the hot summer weather.

What’s The Difference Between Lemonade And Limeade

The difference is in the ingredients. Limeade is made with water, lime juice, and sugar or sugar-free sweetener.

In contrast, lemonade is made with lemon juice, water, sugar, or sugar-free sweetener.

Moreover, limes and lemons have different tartness levels. Lime has a tangier flavor than lemonade.

Tips For Making Sparkling Cranberry Switcha

Using lime zest is an optional step, but it will make the switcha even tastier. Zest or peel the skin limes before you cut them. Once you cut the lime, it will be harder to zest them.

Before you juice the limes, roll them back and forth on your countertop. This trick applies pressure helping the limes release more juice.

Do not add ice to the pitcher you are making the cranberry lime switcha in. It will water down the cranberry lime switcha. It’s best to serve the drink over a glass of ice so it maintains all of its flavor.

Can I Make Cranberry Lime Switcha Ahead Of Time

Typically, you can make switcha ahead of time and store it in the fridge. However, it’s better to make the sparkling cranberry lime switcha just before you serve it. The longer the switcha sits in the fridge, the more carbonation it will lose.

Alternatively, you can make the switch ahead of time and store it in the fridge. Then you can add the sparkling cranberry side right before you are about to serve it. This way, the sparkling cranberry switcha will be carbonated and ice-cold.

Variations And Substitutes

Sparkling cranberry switcha is customizable. So if there is an ingredient you don’t like in this drink, you can easily change it.

For example, you can use several different sparkling ciders in place of cranberry switcha. You can use apple cider or pomegranate cider instead of sparkling cranberry cider. You can also use sparkling non-alcoholic rose instead of sparkling cranberry cider.

You can also use Sprite. However, if you are on a sugar-free diet, look for a bottle of Sprite with the words sugar-free or zero sugar on the label. If you don’t like Sprite, Ginger Ale, and 7 Up are also great substitutes for sparkling cranberry cider. Remember to look for the words zero sugar or sugar-free sweetener if you are sugar-free.

You can also use frozen cranberry concentrate or cranberry juice instead of cranberry cider. Ideally, you want to use frozen cranberry concentrate. It will keep the switcha cold and has a slightly frothy texture.

If you can’t find frozen cranberry concentrate, you can use cranberry juice. However, if you’re going to use cranberry juice, make sure it is a quality brand, as it will affect the taste of the switcha.

Ingredients

  • 8 limes

  • 2 cups of sugar-free sweetener

  • 4 cups of water

  • 2 cups of sparkling cranberry cider

Directions

  • Use the fine side of a grater or a microplane to zest the limes. You can also peel the skin away from the limes using a paring knife.
  • Put the lime zest or peel into a medium pot, add the sugar-free sweetener, and mix it for 1 minute to release the oils in the peel. Add 2 cups of water. Mix to combine.
  • Place it over medium-high heat, stir it until the sugar-free sweetener dissolves, then let it come to a boil. Turn off the heat, then let the syrup cool completely.
  • Cut the limes in half and squeeze the juice out of them.
  • Add the syrup to a pitcher along with the remaining water and sparkling cranberry cider and mix until combined.
  • Pout the sparkling cranberry switcha into glasses filled with ice.
  • Serve and enjoy!
