What Is Teff Flour?

Teff is a member of the Poaceae grass family. This tropical grain is indigenous to Ethiopia and Eritrea, which is believed to be teff’s ancestral home. Teff is stress-tolerant and can handle various environmental conditions. Globally, teff is the smallest grain of all the whole flour grains. It is approximately 1.0mm in length and 0.60mm in width. Teff’s flavor is earthy and nutty, with lighter grains boasting a slightly sweet taste.

Benefits Of Teff Flour

Teff is associated with numerous health benefits, such as preventing and treating celiac disease, diabetes, and anemia. Research studies have shown teff to possess in vitro antioxidant properties. Teff is thought to increase hemoglobin levels in the human body as well as play a role in preventing malaria, anemia, and diabetes. Furthermore, it is a complete protein containing all of the essential amino acids. In terms of protein, though the grains are the size of a poppy seed, teff is comparable to an egg. Additionally, teff is an excellent source of calcium and iron. Teff may be attributed to the low rates of anemia in regions of Ethiopia as it is a staple part of their diet.

What Is Brown Rice Flour?

Brown rice flour is flour produced from processed rice kernels. Though processing removes the outer hulls, the nutrients in the bran layer are kept intact. The rice kernels are ground into brown rice flour. Brown rice flour has a coarser texture, nutty flavor and resembles a darker shade of white rice flour.

Health Benefits Of Brown Rice Flour

Brown rice may not set your taste buds on fire with delicious flavor, especially if you are accustomed to white rice. However, it has some pretty fantastic health benefits. The primary source of brown rice’s health benefits are phytochemicals found within the bran layers. Additionally, the bran layers contain various nutritional compounds, including antioxidants. These compounds provide potential health benefits such as antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties, and cholesterol-lowering effects.

Is Ricotta Cheese Gluten-Free?

Ricotta cheese is gluten-free. In particular, plain ricotta cheese is usually gluten-free. However, if vinegar is used during the production process, it may lead to gluten being present in the cheese. Additionally, if cheese thickeners or stabilizers with gluten are used, it may also lead to gluten development.
