Million Dollar Pasta Bake

Last Updated on February 19, 2026 by Sarah Leadon

This million dollar pasta bake is the kind of comfort food that never disappoints. It’s rich, cheesy, and full of flavor. If you love the flavors of lasagna but want something easier to assemble, this casserole is perfect for you.

The “million dollar” name comes from the creamy cheese layer (cream cheese, sour cream, parmesan, and mozzarella) that melts into the pasta, creating a luxurious texture.

This million dollar pasta bake is perfect for busy weeknights, family gatherings, or meal prep because it makes quite a few servings and reheats beautifully. It’s simple to assemble, customizable, and always a crowd‑pleaser.

Ingredients

This dish is easy to make. It uses simple ingredients to make something that’s meaty, cheesy, and delicious.

  • Pasta – I used penne pasta. You can use rotini or spaghetti noodles.
  • Marina Sauce – Use your favorite brand or homemade marinara sauce.
  • Ground beef: Use lean beef to keep the casserole from becoming greasy.
  • Cheese – You will need a lot of cheese. You need cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, and mozzarella cheese.

How To Make Million Dollar Penne Pasta

Cook the ground beef in a large skillet for 8-10 minutes, breaking it into smaller chunks until it’s no longer pink.

Drain it, then add it back to the pan. Add the onions, bell pepper, garlic, and seasonings, and cook for 3 minutes.

Next, stir in the marinara sauce and brown sugar. Cook for 10 minutes.

Cook the gluten-free penne pasta in salted boiling water. Only cook the pasta for 5 minutes. Gluten-free pasta gets mushy easily. The pasta will cook in the oven. Cooking it for 5 minutes makes sure it doesn’t become mushy. Drain the pasta, mix it with 1 cup of meat sauce, and set it aside.

Mix the cream cheese, sour cream, parmesan cheese, herbs de Provence, black pepper, kosher salt, garlic, and mozzarella cheese until combined.

Place the pasta in a greased 13-by-9 baking dish. Spread it into an even layer. Add meat sauce on top of the pasta, then add the cheese layer on top.

Top with mozzarella cheese, cover it with foil. Bake at 350°F (176°C) for 30 minutes. Uncover it and bake for another 10 minutes until the cheese is golden brown.

Tips For Success

  • Don’t overcook gluten‑free pasta. Only cook the pasta for 5 minutes. The pasta will cook in the oven. It will get mushy if you cook it all the way.
  • Let the casserole rest 10 minutes before slicing.
  • Grate your own mozzarella cheese. It will melt better.

Substitutions & Variations

This million dollar pasta bake is customizable. You can add a different protein or add more vegetables.

  • Protein: Use ground turkey, Italian sausage, ground chicken, or a mix of beef and sausage.
  • Sauce: Use a mix of marinara and alfredo sauce, or vodka sauce, or spicy arrabiata sauce.
  • Cheese: Use ricotta cheese instead of cream cheese, or fontina or provolone cheese instead of mozzarella cheese.
  • Vegetables/Herbs: Add spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini to the meat sauce. You can also add fresh basil leaves to the sauce during the last few minutes of cooking time.
