Air fryer whole roasted chicken is one of the easiest recipes you will ever make. All you have to do is season the chicken, put it in the air fryer, and cook it. It’s that easy!

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you need to make this simple air fryer recipe:

Chicken: I used a whole chicken that is about 3-4 lbs.

Olive Oil: Oil is combined with the seasonings to make a paste. The oil acts like glue. It helps the seasonings in the paste adhere to the chicken and helps it brown better.

Seasoning: Seasoning adds flavor to the chicken. I used a combination of lemon pepper, salt, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder, and black pepper. But you season your chicken with your favorite chicken seasoning.

How To Make Air Fryer Whole Roasted Chicken

Air fryer whole roasted chicken is pretty easy to make. Just follow these steps.

  1. Remove the giblets. They cook faster and can burn. The packaging can also melt if they are in a plastic or paper pouch. Pat the chicken dry thoroughly so the seasonings and oil stick to it.
  2. Mix the oil and seasoning into a paste. Loosen the skin underneath the breast and legs/thighs. Spread half of the paste underneath the skin so it penetrates deeper into the chicken.
  3. Air fry the chicken breast side down for 30 minutes, then flip it over and cook it for another 30-35 minutes until fully cooked.

Tips For Making Air Fryer Whole Roasted Chicken

  • If the legs of the chicken are tied with a string, remove it. The string pushes the chicken higher, causing it to touch the heating element. This will rip the skin and may cause it to burn. If the chicken is still touching the top of the air fryer, press down it it gently until you hear a soft crack. This will help prevent the bird from touching the top of the air fryer.
  • If you have time, let the chicken sit for 30–60 minutes after you season it or refrigerate it overnight for better flavor.
  • Always air fry a whole chicken breast side down first. Cooking a whole chicken breast side down in the air fryer helps keep the breast meat juicy while allowing the thighs and legs to cook more evenly. Flip it after 30 minutes so the breast skin can get crispy.

How To Store Leftover Air Fryer Whole Chicken

You can cut the leftover chicken into smaller pieces. You can also take the meat off the bone. Put the chicken in an airtight container or ziplock bag and store it in the fridge for 4-5 days or freeze it for 3 months.

You can reheat the chicken in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or in the air fryer for 5-8 minutes.
